One of the world’s major private collections, it was started in the 17th century by Pope Innocent X Pamphilj, continued by his descendants.

When the Pamphilj line died out, by the Doria family. It is housed in a grandiose Rococo mansion, Palazzo Doria, with a Renaissance courtyard. Most of the works are still hanging in the places selected by the original collectors; many are famous masterpieces. Among the Italians: Titian, Tintoretto, Correggio, Raphael, Caravaggio, Carracci... Among the foreign masters, the most important are Velazquez, Rubens, Claude Lorrain, Velvet Breughel and many others...
