Giolitti- the oldest gelato in Rome
Do you have a sweet tooth as I do? I suggest, if visiting Rome, definitely visit Giolitti.
Giolitti is the oldest pastry and gelato shop where your senses will be bombarded with the quality and richness of the flavors regardless what ice-cream or pastry you chose.
No wonder Buddy Valastro aka The Cake Boss has talent and success in this industry. It’s in his genes.
This brand was created back in 1890s by Giuseppe and Bernardina Giolitti. They started as creamery on Via Uffici del Vicario 40, but the shop as it is today was made by their successors Nazzareno Giolitti and his wife Giuseppina who opened it up as the first ice cream/pastry shop with intent to have a vegetarian restaurant as well. Very advanced right?
It isn’t known how many flavors they make but we can surely say that you can’t go wrong really. Also, a small heads up, since the place can be packed, make sure to choose the size of your coppa – cup or what type of cono – cone you want, ask for your flavors and then pay for it.
Since it has a cafe in and tables outside, it is ideal for chilling out after a walk trough Pantheon. It’s only two streets down from Pantheon.
Don’t forget to leave a tip, do it like Romans when you are in Rome..
